Do you love scuba diving or snorkeling around remote islands? Do you want to take a journey into a mystical world of underwater paradise? If so, you should highly consider the Gili Islands for your next holiday destination!

The Gili Islands in Indonesia are three miniscule desert islets; Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno. These islands offer a scuba diving and snorkeling experience found nowhere else. The Gilis are known internationally as a excellent place for scuba diving training from amateur through to instructor level. With around 25 fabulous dive spots, a large diversity of marine flora and fauna and breath-taking coral formations, the Gilis are also known as the ‘turtle capital of the world’.

These beautiful islands are a fantastic holiday destination due to their all-year-round water temperatures of 28 degrees celsius, excellent hygiene and a keen interest in environmental conservation.

You can find multilingual diving instructors everywhere on the Gilis. Some of the more common languages include the local Bahasa Indonesian as well as English, French, German, Spanish and Dutch. Every visitor and dive student can be accommodated language-wise.

Snorkelers can rent masks and fins just off the sandy beaches or get in touch with the various dive schools around the 3 islets.

Since motorized transportation is not allowed on the Gilis, people walk for shorter distances and use bicycles or horse-drawn carriages locally referred to as cidomo, to travel for medium or long distances. Transportation to the islands is mostly conducted using speed boats from either Bali or Lombok.

Gili Trawangan

The largest of the 3 Gili Islands is located off the North West coast of Lombok. It is one of the most famous scuba diving spots in Indonesia and is home to some excellent dive schools. Both amateurs and professional divers feel at home here due to the variety of dive courses and dive sites to suit all abilities. One of the most breathtaking experiences you can enjoy here is diving with turtles at Turtle City.

Gili Air

Named for its uniqueness in possessing subterranean fresh water, this island is situated nearest to the Lombok coast. Its tranquil and serene atmosphere is very popular with tourists.

Again there are numerous dive schools here to choose from and so you can expect a complete range of dive courses available, from beginner level to divemaster and beyond.

There are also activities available to the non-divers, such as Kitesurfing and Stand Up Paddle boarding which have recently been added to the Gili Air menu.

You can expect pristine white sandy beaches on Gili Air lined with a variety of accommodation from home-stays to 5-star luxury. These are accompanied by superb restaurants run by the hospitable local villagers.

Gili Meno

The smallest of the Gili Islands is Gili Menp. This is renowned for its idyllic, secluded white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and a bird sanctuary.
